Terius finally catches up to the decade old mystery he's been investigating. Turns out to be a human runt named Malo. Luscin wanted to start a new life and become a Defender, but she couldn’t escape her past that easily. Teum never wanted anything out of life until he met Luscin, why did she abandon everything; he must find out.
A warlord is on the march from the north, equipped with weapons imbued with the gift. A necromancer has mounted a coup in Brust Valley to lure Malo out in the open. There's been too much peace, evil forces want to see the world burn.
It all revolves around Malo. He has no inheritance of knowledge, he's developing physically at a snail’s pace, but he's on course to be a giant amongst men. His spirit is the key, the key to the return. Everyone knows of the return, but nobody knows what is returning.
